class=\"translation-block\">The Barcelona ACTRIS station combines measurement capabilities satisfying the requirements of ACTRIS National Facilities for aerosol in-situ and aerosol remote sensing in an urban site, creating an aerosol observational supersite. The TNA is jointly provided by CSIC (aerosol in-situ) and UPC (aerosol remote sensing) in facilities located at 300 m of each other.<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Barcelona Cluster (CSIC-UPC) Atmospheric Research network is a unique infrastructure for atmospheric research located in NE Spain. These sites are part of the network Xarxa de vigilancia y previsi\u00f3 de la contaminaci\u00f3 atmosf\u00e9rica.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>The design of the network aims to provide a picture of atmospheric aerosols at different environments that can be considered as representative of northeast Spain, in the western Mediterranean Basin. Comparison between measurements obtained at these environments permits us to investigate sources and processes of atmospheric aerosols, and provides insight in order to define adequate strategies for air quality and climate policies.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>The network of sites is well-equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation complying with ACTRIS requirements for aerosol in \u2013situ (MSA, MSY and BCN) and remote sensing (BCN) observational facilities, and with measurement tools to estimate the aerosol radiative effects. Moreover, all sites are also equipped with instruments for trace gases, including VOCs in BCN. It is the only infrastructure as such in the Western Mediterranean Basin, a unique region for atmospheric research given the high insolation, the specific meteorology, the elevated emissions of pollutants, and the frequent impact of dust outbreaks.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>Moreover, collaboration of host organizations with Air Quality Monitoring Networks in Barcelona facilitates the access to AQ roadside monitoring sites for investigating exhaust and non-exhaust emissions.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Barcelona cluster participates in Pilots 2 and 4 in RI URBANS project. Pilot2 is devoted to develop and test NRT data provision of nanoparticles and their size distributions (Barcelona, Birmingham, Helsinki). Pilot 4 will evaluate, the health effects of novel AQ metrics and their source contributions, including PM components (mass concentrations) and nanoparticles (number concentrations), using epidemiology and oxidative potential tools. This leads to NO2 concentrations often exceeding EU limit values, in addition to PM10, PM2.5 and NO2 concentrations frequently above WHO guidelines.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-550 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/actris.es\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/image7.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"801\" height=\"448\" srcset=\"https:\/\/actris.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/image7.png 801w, https:\/\/actris.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/image7-300x168.png 300w, https:\/\/actris.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/image7-768x430.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 801px) 100vw, 801px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The site consists of three air-conditioned shelters for aerosol in-situ and trace gas monitoring, located in the private gardens of the IDAEA facilities (41\u00b0 23'14.28\"N, 2\u00b06'56.34\"E, 77 meters asl). In each container there is an array of PMx inlets. The IDAEA site is equipped with instruments for measuring physical, optical and chemical properties of aerosols (see table). State-of-the-art instruments such as Aerosol Chemical Speciation Monitor (Q-ACSM) and ToF-PTRMS are operative since 2018 and 2021, respectively. The ACSM provides real-time measurements (30 minute averages) of the chemical composition and mass concentrations of non-refractory species in submicron aerosol particles. satisfacen los requisitos de las Instalaciones Nacionales ACTRIS para aerosoles in-situ y teledetecci\u00f3n de aerosoles en un emplazamiento urbano, creando un supersitio de observaci\u00f3n de aerosoles. El TNA es provisto conjuntamente por el CSIC (aerosol in-situ) y la UPC (teledetecci\u00f3n de aerosoles) en instalaciones situadas a 300 metros una de otra. La red de Investigaci\u00f3n Atmosf\u00e9rica del Cl\u00faster de Barcelona (CSIC-UPC) es una infraestructura \u00fanica para la investigaci\u00f3n atmosf\u00e9rica situada en el noreste de Espa\u00f1a. Est\u00e1 integrada por un cl\u00faster de tres plataformas observacionales de aerosoles atmosf\u00e9ricos: Barcelona (BCN, entorno urbano, 78 m s.n.m.), Montseny (MSY, fondo regional, 720 m s.n.m.) y Montsec (MSA, emplazamiento de monta\u00f1a, 1590 m s.n.m.). Estos puntos son operados en colaboraci\u00f3n con la Direcci\u00f3 General de Qualitat Ambiental &#8211; DGQA &#8211; de la Secretar\u00eda de Medi Ambient i Sostenibilitat, del Departament de Territory i Sostenibilitat de la Generalitat de Catlunya. Estos emplazamientos forman parte de la red Xarxa de vigilancia y previsi\u00f3 de la contaminaci\u00f3 atmosf\u00e9rica. El dise\u00f1o de la red pretende proporcionar una imagen de los aerosoles atmosf\u00e9ricos en diferentes entornos que pueden considerarse representativos del noreste de Espa\u00f1a, en la cuenca mediterr\u00e1nea occidental. En MSA y MSY tambi\u00e9n funcionan ceil\u00f3metros; en BCN funcionan un lidar de aerosoles multi-longitud de onda de alta potencia EARLINET, un fot\u00f3metro sol\/cielo\/luna AERONET, un lidar de micropulsos MPLNET y varios radi\u00f3metros SolRad-Net. Entorno urbano &#8211; Barcelona Aerosoles in-situ y a distancia. El emplazamiento de control del entorno urbano de Barcelona (BCN) est\u00e1 situado al noroeste de Barcelona, una ciudad costera, densamente poblada, con un intenso tr\u00e1fico rodado y emisiones portuarias y aeroportuarias. Esto da lugar a concentraciones de NO2 que a menudo superan los valores l\u00edmite de la UE, adem\u00e1s de concentraciones de PM10, PM2,5 y NO2 frecuentemente superiores a las directrices de la OMS.
