Optical remote sensing group of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia
The UPC participates as Observational Platform in the Aerosol Remote Sensing (ARS) component with its station in Barcelona.
The UPC participates in this proposal through the optical remote sensing group integrated in the María de Maeztu CommSensLab unit of excellence of the Department of Signal Theory and Communications. The optical remote sensing group carries out research especially in lidar systems, having developed a high-power pulsed system according to EARLINET standards.
The UPC point of contact manages the EARLINET lidar station in Barcelona, which meets ACTRIS requirements for aerosol remote sensing stations and provides advanced lidar aerosol profiling capabilities (three elastic channels at 355 nm, 532 nm and 1064 nm, two rotational Raman channels at 354 nm and 530 nm, and two depolarisation channels at 355 nm and 532 nm).
Significant Infrastructures
- High-power aerosol lidar, integrated in EARLINET: 3 backscatter channels, 2 extinction channels, 1 water vapour channel and 2 depolarisation channels.
- 9-channel sun/sky/moon photometer (CE318-TP9) with depolarisation measurement capability integrated in AERONET.
- Micropulse lidar at 532 nm with depolarisation channel integrated in MPLNET.
- Radiometric station integrated in SolRad-Net.
