UVA participates in the “Central Facility” CARS (Central Facility for Aerosol Remote Sensing) in the Automatic sun/sky/lunar photometers (ASP) Unit.
UVA was founded in the 13th century and is one of the oldest universities in Europe. The Group of Atmospheric Optics (GOA) of the Department of Optics of the Faculty of Science has a long history in atmospheric research by optical methods for more than 20 years.
Since 2006 the GOA group operates an AERONET calibration facility, in close collaboration with the AERONET headquarters at NASA, the Atmospheric Optics Laboratory in Lille and the Izaña Atmospheric Research Center in Tenerife, belonging to the Spanish State Meteorological Agency (AEMET). This calibration facility has participated in the ACTRIS, ACTRIS-2 and ACTRIS-PPP projects and will continue as part of the ACTRIS ERIC Center for Aerosol Remote Sensing (CARS).
